Janice was amazing!  Our first impression was that she was incredibly warm, which is what we wanted in a doula first and foremost.  Her services went above and beyond what we expected…house visits, answering all of our questions, providing information that we didn’t receive from our prenatal class, and generally making us feel better about the crazy life event that was about to take place.  I had to be induced 2 weeks early, so labour was extra hard.  Janice made the days so much better, she had great suggestions for getting through labour and making it a bit less painful.  We were blown away by how hands on she was, and her endurance through it all.  Her presence allowed my husband to focus on being there for me emotionally, he wasn’t as stressed about remembering all the things we learned about labour.  And she kept both of us hydrated.  Finally, the photos Janice took of our childbirth experience were absolutely amazing, she seriously has a talent for it.  Highly recommend her, all around!

Our experience with Janice was beyond our expectations. She provided valuable information and advice in our visits prior to the birth and we enjoyed the couple’s homework she gave us. It was very natural and easy to talk to Janice and our encounters felt like meeting a good old friend. We loved her calmness, her wisdom and her natural approach to birth. When the big day came (or several days in our case) she was right there with us and did not leave our side, whether in the beginning at home or later at the hospital. She was an immense help in keeping up our spirits and giving us strength in our very long birthing process. Janice was very helpful, but not pushy, when it came to decision-making. We are very grateful to have had Janice join us in this wild experience and would not hesitate to hire her again!

Bascially, Janice is magic. Seriously, hire Janice. I did not have a doula for my first birth &, upon hearing about friends’ experiences with doulas, I decided hiring one for my second birth was a worthwhile investment & it absolutely was. I really appreciated Janice’s care & manner in our meetings before my labour. She was warm, informative, knowledgeable, & thorough. She was great at including my husband & preschooler in conversations & instilled confidence that we were in good hands. As well, she was skilled at presenting options and ideas & was completely non-judgemental around any of our responses. I really felt like she wanted to help understand who we are as a family so that she could support the experience as we wanted/needed. Once labour began, we called Janice & she arrived quickly. I was feeling pretty nervous & stressed as my labour became intense fast & having Janice there to manage things was exactly what we needed. She is so calming & reassuring & did an awesome job of making me feel completely supported & of helping me be focused. Her presence instantly changed the dynamic to one that felt way more manageable. I had several people present, & Janice was awesome at keeping everyone calm & directly gently, as needed & desired, so that everyone was able to fulfill their roles well. I know sometimes people worry that having a doula will “take away” from the job of the partner or other support person & I can say definitely that it didn’t – instead it made my support people feel better able to do their jobs. When we made the move to the hospital, Janice worked expertly & it was clear she is comfortable & experienced with working in a setting with other professionals like nurses, doctors, & midwives. During labour & delivery & afterwards, she saw & solved needs as they arose before I even realized they needed solving which was wonderful.

I interviewed a lot of doulas before I selected Janice Lim. Janice sounded perfect when I first spoke with her on the phone answering all of my doula interview questions in a very professional manner. She was well educated about the birthing process having attended several doula courses, practicing being a doula, and had even the good fortune of being able to follow her aunt around who is an obstetrician. She made me feel that I would be well taken care of in her hands. Not only that, she was a mother herself to two lovely girls through natural birth which is what I wanted for my labour process.

During the entire labour process, Janice was always available via phone, online chat, or sms to answer any questions or concerns. She was also readily available to come out to my home or the hospital if and when needed. The entire time Janice provided reading material, alongside exercises to do to help with the labour process. Closer to the time of delivery, Janice provided information on what we will need to make decisions on post delivery in regards to the baby’s care which was really helpful to know about in advance as this was not brought up in pre-natal classes..

Janice was my doula for the birth of my son. We were unsure about whether we would need a doula at first, but having planned a home water birth, we thought it would be a good idea to have someone there for extra support and assistance. I was so happy that I chose Janice, as she was such a calming, supportive and helpful presence. She made me feel comfortable, focused and empowered throughout my birth experience and enabled my partner to be there for me, instead of having to run around grabbing towels and other things I may have needed. I ended up having to transfer to hospital as my labour was not progressing as planned, and she stayed with me the whole time until after the birth, when she went back to our home and tidied up in order for us to be able to bring baby home to an organized house, which was so thoughtful – I am still so thankful for that! She was there to answer my questions whenever I needed. I would highly recommend Janice to other pregnant women who are looking for a calming and empowering presence for their birth experience.

There aren’t enough words to describe how grateful I was and still am that Janice was my Doula at my first child’s birth. My husban unfortunately couldn’t be part of the birth experience as he was still in hospital himself. Janice helped and encouraged me to have a positive birth experience without any assistance of drugs. All natural and just how I wished for. She is very experienced and knows how to guide you with her calm and very caring personality to experience your birth of your child in the best way. Prior to giving birth she was so flexible to have one of the prenatal meetings in the hospital where my husband was at the time. Whilst I was in labour and struggling to stick to my birth plan, she encouraged me to do so and was also speaking up for me when the doctor wanted to do things in a matter that was an absolute no-no for me.

She was always available to speak to even after the baby was born, to just check in and see how I would get along with breastfeeding and settling in with the little one.

I highly recommended Janice to anyone who wants to have an experienced, loving birth person on your side to make the best of an incredible unique journey!
